Geocaching Swiss Army Knife
This is the single best tool available to make your Geocaching more efficient. There’s virtually nothing it doesn’t do. It’s free to download and use the full version. It’s worth spending the few dollars to register, though. Austrlian developer Clyde Getty is easily accessible for help. GSAK allows you to organize all of your Geocaching data, easily upload and download from your GPSr, and export files to view cache text on your PDA.

GPS Information.net
This is the single best online resource for GPS information. It’s a collection of links and original content from GPS experts Joe Mehaffey, Jack Yeazel, and Dale DePriest. It’s packed with everything from how it works to what to buy and more. It’s a pretty informal link listing site, but immensely valuable.

EasyGPS
EasyGPS is a free software tool to help you manage waypoints including uploading, downloading and some levels of manipulation. It’s a really good introductory tool before you move up to GSAK.

Where-What to Buy
If you want to walk into a store, talk to an expert, and get a reasonable price, you can’t beat REI. If you want to order online, my favorite outline is backcountry.com. Personally, I recommend the Garmin line. The eTrex line is a great place to start, especially the new eTrex Legend CX at around $269. If you want to go a notch up, spring for the Garmin Map 60 CX for around $400. Both units offer SD card memory, which is a big help in moving maps and data. If you want to look at another line, checkout Magellan’s Explorist line. Both the Garmin eTrex and Magellan Explorist are designed with Geocaching in mind.

UTAG is a great regional organization with lots of Geocaching events and activities. And the online forums are extremely helpful for exchanging information and even finding hints and tips on those impossible finds.
